Opening weekend is a festival of points
2026 season opens with an explosion of scoring as three teams (and counting!) top 110
The defending champion Packers are at 106 points and counting, with the Broncos defense going tonight.
The 2024 champion Band Aids are in the books with a 114-89 upset win over the Invaiders.
And prospective 2026 title hunters Who Dey and the Tirades each have clocked in with 126 points — the Tirades will continue to pile on with Jaylen Waddle going tonight — as they scored dominating week 1 victories.
So begins the 2026 season, with an avalanche of scoring that kept the JSFL Today bean-counters busy all weekend. There were several NFL games yesterday that set off the "over" alarms at the sports books. The Bears-Panthers game yesterday led the way with a combined 96 points. The Bills-Texans? 67. Ravens-Colts? 64. Saints-Lions? 61. Bengals-Bucs? 60. The MNF game tonight in Denver (Broncos-Chiefs) could also make this list. I guess we're going to have to put up with the Bears scoring a ton of points, as head coach Ben Johnson (who previously ran the high-scoring Lions offense) says they're going at the NFL's all-time scoring record (606 points, 2013 Broncos).
There is only one battle to be decided tonight, and that's between the Gerbils and Spread Beaters. Each team has one player going in the Broncos-Chiefs clash on Monday Night Football: Matt Pringle's Beaters lead 82-66 and are three-point favorites to hold on for the victory with WR Rashee Rice expected to score 9. Chuck Nelson is pinning his hopes on an upset and a huge game from RB Kenneth Walker III, who is predicted to score 11.
If the RB scoring from the earlier games this weekend holds, the Gerbils have a legitimate shot here. Just take a quick glance at what's already happened:

And it wasn't just a weekend for the running backs. Quarterback scoring was also the story, and there's a great reason that we led today's recap with a photo of Tirades QB Caleb Williams... that's because he scored a whopping 36 points yesterday, the high scorer of the week (so far) as the Tirades are poised to whallop the Recliners by 60-plus points.
Close behind was Band Aids first-round pick QB Josh Allen, who scored 35 to lead his team to an upset win over the Invaiders (and 19 more from Cowboys RB Javonte Williams in the Sunday Night game to put this one on the shelf). Vern might be questioning his selection of QB Justin Herbert in the Mike McDaniels era (I have that stiff in my guillotine league and almost got chopped as a result) — Herbert looked a bit lost and scored only 12, but Vern says "it's early, we're not in panic mode." Yet.
Spread Beaters QB Jaxson Dart scored a respectable 26 points against the always-overrated Cowboys, and the lone highlights for the Recliners were QB Lamar Jackson (25) and favorite target WR Zay Flowers (21) who combined to score most of their team's 67 points. Flowers, however, pulled a hamstring and will undergo an MRI today.
