Rams defense misses by one point for Gerbils; Davante Adams has huge game for Beaters but they still fall short

Davante Adams had a huge game for the Spread Beaters, but even his 31 points on Monday night was not enough to overcome the huge deficit his team faced against Who Dey.
Davante Adams had a huge game for the Spread Beaters, but even his 31 points on Monday night was not enough to overcome the huge deficit his team faced against Who Dey.

Matt Pringle needed a huge game from WR Davante Adams on Monday night to have any hope of a rally against a massive lead against Matty McCumber's Who Dey. And Pringle got one. Adams lit it up for 31 points against the NY Giants on Monday Night Football... too bad that was still three points short as Who Dey held on for dear life in a 112-109 thriller.

Pringle also had the Giants QBs -- and that's plural because starter Jaxson Dart was knocked out with a knee injury and was replaced by Jameis Winston. Dart appeared to injure his MCL on the opening drive and will undergo an MRI today. Winston came in and the offense struggled all night, and he could only manage 3 points (of an expected 18).

So Who Dey are 2-0 and have scored the most points of any team in the league after two games (238) and are ranked as the league's top team. The Band Aids coasted to a win over the Recliners and are also 2-0 and have scored 208 and a ranked third. The Rangers, 1-1, have inexplicably jumped into the second spot in the league rankings.

As expected, Matt Stafford led those Rangers to a big bounce-back win over the Tirades with a 27-point effort (four TD passes). More about that win later.

Also bouncing back from an opening-week loss were the Invaiders, who held off the Gerbils for a one-point victory when the Rams defense was unable to come up with the extra two points needed for Chuck Nelson's team to earn the win. Both QBs in that one scored only 7 points, so it would have been a rare JSFL tie had the Rams gotten one more sack.

Now, for the roundup:

Who Dey 112, Spread Beaters 109: As noted previously, Matty held a commanding 112-34 lead going into the Sunday night game. WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba was the main reason, as he went off against the hapless Arizona Cardinals secondary (and with a backup QB throwing to him). JSN scored 33 points with three TD receptions, one an 82-yarder that is the longest of his short career, and hauled in 155 yards in receptions. QB Joe Burrow had 16, WR Chris Olave had 14 and a TD, Tetairoa McMillan 10, the Bengals D had 11 and the Bengals K had 12. I sense that Matty may have issues when the Bengals lose. Anyway, Pringle's down my almost 80 going into the Sunday night game, but the good news is he has a glimmer of hope after RB Jonathan Taylor erupts for 25 points. Then on Monday night, Adams puts up 31 and all he needs is backup QB Winston to do something positive -- some passing yards, some running yards, maybe a TD in garbage time of the Rams 27-7 win. Nope. He throws for only 131, runs for ONE and tosses a pick. <Sad Trombone>.

Rangers 116, Tirades 90: The aforementioned Stafford, who stunk things up in Week 1 for the Rangers (3 points, Go Niners!), redeemed himself by getting the final scoring done to put this one away (27 points) as the Tirades held a slim 90-89 lead going into the final game of the weekend. Stafford was one of three Rangers posting scores in the high 20s this week: keeper Amon-Ra St. Brown had 26 and CeeDee Lamb had 27. Chuba Hubbard added 12. For the Tirades, who have the second-highest scoring team in the league, it was just another case of running into a hot team in the wrong week. Yours truly went the wrong way at starting QB last week, with Caleb Williams (39 points in Week 1) getting the nod despite crappy weather. Not only does he only score 9, but he's injured and out for an indeterminate amount of time with a hamstring issue. I guess the good news is that there is no decision to make in the interim... backup Brock Purdy, who shredded the Dolphins for 27 points on Sunday, will be the Tirades starter. RBs Christian McCaffrey and Derrick Henry combined for 31 points for the Tirades, but Flex Ashton Jeanty disappointed with 5. Both WR Christian Watson and TE Dalton Kincaid had TD receptions in a losing effort.

Band Aids 94, Recliners 69: Bob Garcia's team improved to 2-0 after another 30-point game (39 to be exact) from QB Josh Allen. who is averaging 37 a game. He of course cannot keep that up... or can he? The Band Aids got 16 more from K Brandon Aubrey and 11 from WR Garrett "Remember Me?" Wilson. Chris Zimnoch's Recliners dropped to 0-2 but did get 14 from QB Lamar Jackson, 19 from WR Ja'Marr Chase and 11 from K Harrison Butker.

Invaiders 84, Gerbils 83: This one came down to the Rams defense on Monday night, and while they did manage to score 11, they needed 13 for the win. Vern's team is back even at 1-1 thanks mostly to the Patriots defense, which scored 21 on Sunday. Only Flex WR Rashod Bateman (14) and TE Trey McBride (10) also managed double figures for the Invaiders. The Gerbils RB tandem of Jamyr Gibbs and Kenneth Walker combined for 34 points (17 each) and TE George Kittle (Go Niners!) looked to be back in form with a TD reception and 14 points. Only 7 from QB Drake Maye killed the Gerbils in this one as backup Tyler Shough (22) outscored Maye for the second consecutive week.

Packers 83, WTNE 47: Jeff Lambert's team remained unbeaten after an easy win after Jordan Garcia's WTITL held true to the new nickname, at least for another week. RB James Cook had 19 and WR DaVonta Smith 17 to lead the Pack (2-0), who also got 15 from QB Jalen Hurts and 14 from RB Kyren Williams. The only player in double figures for Jordan (0-2) was QB Baker Mayfield (11).

Injury update

Week 1 was not a good week for WRs and as mentioned previously, Week 2 it was not a great week for quarterbacks. Three starters were knocked out (joining Seattle's Sam Darnold from the opening weekend) and have varying degrees of severity.

QB Darnold (back, Gerbils) is expected to miss at least two more games.

QB Williams (hamstring, Tirades) avoided what was thought to be a much more serious knee injury and is week to week. He is expected to miss at least one game.

QB Dart (knee, Beaters): X-rays were negative and it is thought to be a sprained MCL, which would sideline him for weeks.

QB Jayden Daniels (elbow, Packers) dislocated the same elbow as last season, which had him miss a total of seven games, and it's thought that he'll be out longer than that.

WR Alec Pierce (heel, Tirades) is getting further testing today but out indefinitely.

WR Jayden Reed (concussion, Tirades) is in protocol and out indefinitely

RB Jadarian Price (chest, Tirades) did not suffer broken ribs against Arizona and is questionable.

WR Mike Evans (hip, Gerbils) left Sunday's game after 55 yards in receptions and is questionable for this Sunday's game against Arizona.

WR Puka Nacua (hip, Band Aids) missed Week 2 and is questionable for this weekend.

RB Saquon Barkley (stinger, WTNE) played only 11 snaps Sunday and will undergo an MRI today. Also questionable for this weekend.

TE Brock Bowers (knee, Recliners) should return this week.
