Record-setting effort from Tirades

Updated: Dec 17, 2024

WTNE's points lead evaporates under onslaught from Josh Allen and Ja'Marr Chase, final week will determine fourth and final playoff team

Josh Allen scores one of his three rushing touchdowns (he also threw for three scores) en route to a QB-record 51 point week as the Tirades rolled to a league-record 166 points.

A short week ago, the Tirades were on the outside looking in at a possible playoff berth. They'd have to win their final two games and hope WTNE, the other team fighting for their playoff lives, lost one because they held a massive 47-point advantage in points differential.

So the Tirades went out and did what no other team has done in league history: a record-setting 166-point explosion against the Packers that put them (for a day, anyway), in the driver's seat for the final playoff spot.

That point total 22 points more than any team had ever scored in a single game before -- erased the huge points advantage that Jordan Garcia's WTNE held in the event the two teams end the season in an 8-7 tie. Now, the Tirades hold a four-point advantage, 1348-1344, but still need to win this week AND outscore WTNE (if they win) to land the final playoff spot and a first-round matchup against the dominant Recliners.

But enough of that. We'll leave the prognostications to the Swami and his preview tomorrow. For now, we'll look at last week's results.

TIRADES 166, PACKERS 56: Josh Allen set a quarterback record with a 51-point game and Ja'Marr Chase scored 30 for the second time in four weeks as the Tirades (7-7) jumped from an afterthought playoff contender to the team that controls its own destiny. RB Isaac Guerendo, the latest in a line of 49ers running backs the Tirades have employed in 2024, scored 24 points in his first start and surprise! injured his foot and is questionable for Thursday's game against the Rams. This follows on season-ending injuries to Christian McCaffrey (who played three games) and Jordan Mason (who played most of the rest before a knee injury in Week 13). Only two Tirades were held to single-digit scoring, TE BRock Bowers and WR A.J. Brown both had 4. Jordan Love led the Pack (3-11) with 14. On the Bench: Nothing here mattered but the Tirades could have scored 175 points had WR Jerry Jeudy started over Brown (+8) and Chiefs kicker Matthew Wright started instead of Jason Sanders (+1). The Pack could have been near 100 had they started WRs Jordan Addison (+31) and Darnell Mooney (+10).

WTNE 115, WHO DEY 73: First-round draft pick Puka Nacua had a season-high 31 points and QB Joe Burrow added 24 as Jordan kept pace with the Tirades for another week. Rachaad White added 22 and Saquon Barkley 14 for WTNE (7-7) in the win. WR Justin Jefferson had 25 and QB Matthew Stafford 20 for Matt McCumber's Who Dey (5-9).

RANGERS 114, RECLINERS 106: QB Jalen Hurts had 23 and RB Kyren Williams had 21 to lead the Rangers (10-4) to the win over the Recliners (11-3). Technically, this win puts the Rangers with an outside chance of winning the division, since the hold a 122-point advantage over the Recliners going into the final week of the regular season. Flex Davante Adams (16) and TE George Kittle (15) were among the six Rangers who scored in double figures. RB Zach Charbonnet's shocking 30-point effort led the Recliners in the loss.

BAND AIDS 111, GERBILS 74: Bob Garcia salted away the Shitty Teams Division title with this win, as trade deadline acquisition Josh Jacobs again led the way with a team-high 24 points. The Band Aids (9-5) got 21 from QB Jared Goff, 18 from RB James Conner and 16 from Flex Chuba Hubbard. Gerbils (6-8) QB Sam Darnold had 33 points in a losing effort.

INVAIDERS 105, BEATERS 79: Vern Ahrendes stuck the knife in defending champion Matt Pringle's hopes at a third straight title, knocking the Spread Beaters (6-8) out of playoff contention. The Invaiders (6-8) ride-or-die 49ers tandem of QB Brock Purdy (20) and WR Jauan Jennings (21) led the way, along with the Cowboys connection of WR Ceedee Lamb (15) and RB Rico Dowdle (14). The Beaters got 17 each from WR Tyreek Hill and QB Kyler Murray.
